Time for an upgrade – Vision Sunday

IKEA “The wonderful everyday.” I know this is an advert for a well known Swedish Furniture store (well I am married to a Swede!) so I have an excuse.

Life is about the ‘everyday’ and life is about the ordinary. There are bills to pay, a house to clean, decisions to make, the mundane, the repeat things that don’t always get the pulse racing, that’s just life. Most of these things aren’t applauded, they don’t go on social media and don’t get ‘likes’, but actually they are the foundation for life. They aren’t the only things about life though (thank goodness!!), there are highlights. There are special days, the day you graduate, the day you become a parent, your wedding day, the day Liverpool wins the premier league (oops I can but dream…).

The day we gave our lives to Jesus Christ is a special day, but it doesn’t mean that every day after that will be full of endless excitement, what it means is that we are now living for what I believe is the greatest cause on the planet, the cause of Christ and his kingdom expressed through his church, the body of Christ. Martin Luther king Jr said, “If a man has not discovered something that he will die for he isn’t fit to live.”

The two most important days of our lives are the day we were born and the day we discover why we were born. A life without purpose means that the ‘everyday’ has no meaning. A life with purpose brings meaning to the everyday and the special day.

This Sunday at Xcel Church is a special day…..

For the last few weeks we have talked about vision and our dreams for the next five years. Things like…

2500 ‘worshippers’ meeting as Xcel Church across eight different locations.

Helping thousands of people during the year in our communities.

Connecting hundreds of people in small groups through a variety of new Xcel groups.

Training 500 leaders to lead well in life.

Increasing our influence ~ to be an apostolic resource and serve the wider church.

I strongly believe that we are called to ‘upgrade’ our lives and ‘upgrade our vision’ because the future is ours if we dare to embrace it. There are two types of upgrades, there are the ones that are forced on us because something breaks down or has become irrelevant (i.e your computer needs an upgrade) and there are the upgrades that we intentionally choose.

This doesn’t mean that there are no ordinary days, it means that every ordinary day is lived with an understanding of extraordinary purpose because we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

Let’s come on Sunday with the concept of ‘upgrade’ firmly in our thinking, for our vision, for our future, for our families. That means a sacrifice, it means a spirit of faith…because there are special days.

Let’s make this Sunday a special day.

One heart, one voice, one song, ready to help build what God is building throughout the earth and to see an ‘upgrade’ across our lives and our church in 2015 and beyond.

See you in church,

We love you, John and Lisa

Isaiah 60:4/5 [Amp] “Lift up your eyes round about you and see! They all gather themselves together, they come to you. Your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried  and nursed in the arms.

Then you shall see and be radiant… and your heart shall thrill and tremble with joy …and be enlarged”
